BACKGROUND INFORMATION LifeCare foundation (LCF) is a non-profit organization (NGO) founded in Malawi by a Malawian Citizen-Pax Matipwiri. LCF was founded in early 2015. The foundation was established in order to support Malawi’s government and its citizens who are living in disadvantaged situations. These citizens constantly experience heavy poverty, food insecurity and unsanitary living conditions, and often lack access to clean water {Sustainable Development goals (SDGs-1,2,3,4,8 and 17}. LCF focuses on creating community based programs serving Malawians in rural communities and finds sustainable solutions to improve living conditions of poor Malawians. WHO WE ARE The LifeCare Malawi Foundation is a non-profit organization located in Malawi-South-east Africa, we are much passionate about bridging the existing gap on lack of access to education by vulnerable children, poverty, food insecurity, among other Public Health concerns. These burdens, falls on the shoulders of the very poor people living in rural areas of Malawi. LCF emphasizes education provision, and Sustainable Public Health community based programs as key strategies for poverty alleviation and empowering vulnerable groups within communities more especially; Children, women, girls and elderly, specifically those living in rural areas and below the poverty line. LCF focuses on building capacity of the communities by implementing the most sustainable community based health projects, we promote gender equality by helping women such as heading the family and girls know their rights so as to increase and improve their household incomes with their families. OUR PURPOSE The most motivating factor that driven the mind of the founder to establish LCF stems from his previous poor life experience in Malawi. Pax Matipwiri who witnessed and experienced all levels of hardships in life as a vulnerable child in Malawi, wishes to support women, children and their families living in rural areas and undergoing the same tough situations he went through to now taste the privilege of better income, food security, better education and know their rights. That’s why, LCF desires to make a sustainable and remarkable difference in lives of vulnerable population and groups such as; women, girls, elderly and people living with HIV-AIDS. OUR GOALS AND OBJECTIVES LCF recognizes the existence of unbalanced socio-economic status of people living in rural and hard to reach areas. This existing gap increases the burden of poverty, food insecurity and lack of access to education to many Malawians living in these settings. Despite that Malawi government is trying its best to improve living standards of Malawians, little is being done among the marginalized population and vulnerable groups living in rural areas for their household development. Hence, LCF embraces the broad goal of bridging the communications gap at all levels of socio-economic status by focusing on reducing poverty, hunger, illiteracy, and improving food security at the household level. LCF focuses on capacity building of communities and education for vulnerable children more especially girls (60% female’s vs 40% males) and disabled as one of the key strategy for empowering women and young children. LCF helps young girls stay in school, return to school, and access quality secondary and tertiary education. LCF is conducting several activities that is empowering and improving the mindset of children to focus on their education and career development. We will be achieving these through job shadowing, mentorship, annual trainings and workshops, boosting and capitalizing their talents, among others.
